ACP-105 is a SARM that has been frequently studied in both male and female mice in order to see the effects it has on diminished androgen levels.
Effects of ACP-105 on Radiation-Induced Cognitive Changes
In a fascinating study conducted by Dayger et. Al, it was found that female mice are much more likely than male mice to experience cognitive decline when experimentally radiated. The study conducted showed that use of ACP-105 two weeks after being exposed to radiation was able to effectively inhibit the development of sensorimotor defects.
Additionally, the researchers found that supplementation with ACP-105 following radiation treatment reduced immunoreactivity of the protein MAP-2 in the sensorimotor cortex of the brain. Using the data that was collected during this experiment, Dayger et. Al were able to conclude that due to the reduced levels of MAP-2 in the sensorimotor cortex that treatment with ACP-105 could potentially increase the mice’s performance when conducting a rotarod test (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21219889/).
Effects of ACP-105 on Memory Defects
It is well known that dementia is linked to decreased androgen levels, in a study conducted by George et. Al, ACP-105 was supplemented to male mice who were gonadectomized in order to see whether or not treatment would positively affect memory defects.
Initially, the study found that use of ACP-105 generally reduced anxious behavior in the mice they were testing on when they were placed in a maze. Anxious behavior was measured based on the amount of time spent in the open or closed arms of the maze. Overall, the amount of time and the number of entries to the closed arm portion of the maze decreased, thus indicating decreased levels of anxiety.
3xTg-AD gonadectomized mice were seen to have significant cognitive defects, however, they were dosed with ACP-105 over the span of 4 months during which they underwent memory tests such as the Morris Water Maze. During the Morris Water Maze the mice were trained to find a hidden platform within the maze. It was found that when treated with ACP-105 there was an increase in the amount of time the mice were spending near the hidden platform as well as an increase in how frequently the mice crossed the platform when tested over a week-long period, thus indicating improved memory function (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3867967/).
